v3.0.0

August 2026

Redesigned settings, video folders, and sync fixes

  • Settings has been rebuilt, each menu item is now its own page instead of one long scroll, with related options grouped into cards and a live preview on Bar that updates as you toggle
  • Theme moved from Bar to Appearance, where it belongs. The Tools toggles are now part of Bar, since that is what they control
  • Video folders: mark any of the 7 numbered buttons as a video library and its bookmarks show as a thumbnail strip under the bar, with tags, playlists, and adjustable card size
  • Fixed: cloud sync silently dropped every video setting, folder marks, tags, playlists, and display preferences were wiped when signing in on a second device
  • Fixed: exporting a backup and importing it back could corrupt your settings. Whitelist users were flipped to blocklist (hiding the bar everywhere) and star ratings were erased
  • Fixed: "Bookmarks only" and "Settings + bookmarks" backups appeared to import successfully but never actually restored the bookmarks
  • Video thumbnails, tags, and notes are now included in backups and reattached correctly on import

v2.0.77 – v2.0.96

July 2026

Folder search & drag-assign, quick-switch clarity, sharing and layout fixes

v2.0.96 — Each window now remembers its own folder

  • Fixed the biggest multi-window annoyance: switching folders in one window no longer changes every other open window — each window now keeps the folder you last picked for it
  • Prefer the old shared behavior? Turn off “Remember a different folder per window” in Folders and every window goes back to sharing one folder

v2.0.95 — Find a folder by typing, not just dragging

  • New: the Folders picker has a search box again — type a few letters to filter your folder cards instantly, while dragging a card onto a numbered button (or focusing a card and pressing Enter) still works exactly the same
  • Clearer at a glance: a small grip icon and a one-line instruction now sit above the folder cards, showing you can drag a card onto a numbered button
  • Fixed: the quick-switch buttons could show two buttons highlighted the same shade of blue for different reasons — they’re now different colors, with a small legend explaining what each one means

v2.0.93 — Fixed: sharing a Google Doc or Drive file could get stuck

  • Fixed: on Google Docs and Google Drive, the bar’s layout could interfere with the Share dialog, leaving it stuck instead of opening — the bar no longer runs on docs.google.com or drive.google.com
  • Fixed: on some sites the page’s own background could visibly change color while the bar was on — it now fills only its own thin strip, so the site’s real background and colors stay exactly as intended
  • Fixed: in dark mode, the selected rating button and a few other accent colors in the save panel were hard to read — they now use proper light-on-dark colors

v2.0.91 — Explained: why the bar can’t appear on some pages

  • The popup now shows a clear, always-visible note on pages where the bar can never run — like Chrome’s New Tab page — explaining that this is a Chrome browser restriction that applies to every extension, not a bug
  • Fixed: on the Chrome Web Store itself, the popup’s per-site toggle looked functional even though Chrome silently blocks every extension from running there — it now shows the same explanation instead of a misleading working toggle

v2.0.81 — The bar appears instantly again — no more flash on page load

  • Fixed: the bar could briefly show up empty and then pop in its bookmarks a moment later, especially on a fresh browser start — instead of feeling instantly there like the rest of Chrome’s UI
  • The bar now only swaps its placeholder for the real bar once its bookmarks have actually finished drawing, so there’s nothing empty to flash — just a clean, instant appearance
  • Fixed: site icons could pop in a beat after the bar itself appeared — they now finish loading before the bar reveals, so everything shows up together
  • Removed a redundant startup refresh that occasionally restarted icon loading right after the bar first appeared

v2.0.79 — Drag a folder straight onto a quick-switch button

  • New: your bookmark folders now show as cards in Settings — drag one onto a numbered quick-switch button to assign it, with a grip handle so it’s clear each card is draggable
  • The numbered buttons now look like the bar’s own buttons, light up while you drag, and confirm with a quick highlight when a folder lands
  • Cards show which button a folder is already assigned to, so you can see your whole setup at a glance
  • Keyboard alternative: focus a folder card and press Enter to assign it — no mouse required
  • New: a quick feedback box right in Settings — share a suggestion or bug report directly, no need to leave the extension

v2.0.77 — Search for a folder instead of hunting through a list

  • New: picking a folder — for a quick-switch button, an Auto-switch rule, or during first-run setup — is now a search box instead of a long dropdown
  • New: Auto-switch rules no longer require quick-switch buttons to already exist — search and pick any folder directly when creating a rule
  • Fixed: the Auto-switch help text still said “choose button 1, 2, or 3” even though up to 7 buttons are supported
  • Fixed: the first-run welcome screen’s intro card was blank for Brazilian-Portuguese and Simplified-Chinese

v2.0.67 – v2.0.76

June 2026

Export choices, dark-mode readability, full-screen support, and search polish

v2.0.76 — Pick what to export, plus polish

  • New: choose what to back up — settings + bookmarks, settings only, or bookmarks only — from a dropdown next to the Export button
  • New: long bookmark titles in the bar are now kept short with an ellipsis, with the full title sliding into view on hover
  • Fixed: a browser security policy could block the pre-paint theme script, so Settings occasionally flashed light before switching to dark — the theme now applies reliably with no console error

v2.0.73 — Dark mode is readable again

  • Fixed: in dark mode, a number of Settings labels and values were nearly invisible — they now have proper contrast

v2.0.72 — A clearer first run, plus a layout fix

  • New: a one-time welcome note when the bar first appears, explaining what it is and how to customize or hide it
  • Clearer empty folder: when the selected folder has no bookmarks, the bar now says so plainly with a one-tap “Open Settings”
  • Fixed: on some sites that scroll the whole window from inside a fixed-height layout, the bar could leave the lower part of the page blank and unscrollable
  • Translation fixes: Settings is now translated for Swedish, plus review-prompt and stray-English fixes for Brazilian-Portuguese and Simplified-Chinese

v2.0.71 — The bar now makes room inside full-screen web apps too

  • In apps that build their whole interface inside a full-screen container — web-based editors, maps, chat apps and the like — the bar now automatically reserves its strip instead of overlapping the app, so toolbars and bottom controls stay fully visible
  • It works automatically with no per-site setup, and leaves ordinary pages exactly as they were

v2.0.70 — Smarter folder picker + a save-picker fix

  • The folder picker now surfaces the folders you switch to most often first — your go-to folders sit right at the top
  • Fixed: the “save to folder” picker now closes the moment you pick a folder, instead of staying open after the save

v2.0.69 — A gentle, one-time way to tell us how it’s going

  • We may now occasionally ask if you’re enjoying Second Bookmark Bar — it’s one tap, and you can dismiss it any time
  • If you’re happy, you can leave a quick Chrome Web Store rating; if not, it takes you straight to feedback so we can fix things
  • Shown at most twice ever, never on day one — only after you’ve actually used the bar for a while

v2.0.68 — Saved-page ★, smarter search, compact mode + viewport fixes

  • The toolbar icon now shows a ★ when the page you’re on is already bookmarked — hover to see which folder it’s in
  • Search now tolerates typos and abbreviations — “gihub” still finds GitHub, “mzla” finds Mozilla — and ranks the best matches first
  • Optional hover preview (off by default): turn it on in Tools to see a bookmark’s full title, address and folder when you hover it
  • Clearer cloud-sync safety promise — sync pauses instead of overwriting if a change looks destructive, and every update is backed up first
  • New “Icons only” option — hide bookmark text and keep just the favicons for a more compact bar
  • The bar no longer covers a website’s own fixed top menu or toolbar, even when the site loads its header a moment after the page
  • Going fullscreen now hides the bar completely and restores it on exit — no more bar over fullscreen videos
  • Fixed the bar vanishing on some server-rendered sites (e.g. Greenhouse job pages and similar React/Next.js apps)
  • The popup’s per-site switch now reads “Hide bar on this site” for a clearer one-tap way to hide the bar on the page you’re on

v2.0.67 — PDF fix + editor-app layout fix

  • PDF pages now load normally — the bar no longer injects into Chrome’s PDF viewer (it could previously leave PDFs blank)
  • Jitter.video editor: timeline and bottom controls no longer cut off below the screen edge
  • Sturdier per-site layout fallback — the page offset is kept even when a site changes its internal structure

v2.0.22 – v2.0.66

May – June 2026

Big stability + per-site control round

  • Show the bar only on chosen sites (per-page whitelist mode)
  • Search results open reliably on every site (capture-phase click fix)
  • Right-clicking the bar no longer makes bookmarks disappear
  • Cloud sync round-trip keeps all settings (visibility mode, pinned bookmarks, domain lists)
  • Dark-theme fixes across settings, plus in-window “What’s new” scrolling
  • Options page no longer auto-scrolls to the Cloud section on open

v2.0

Spring 2026

The 2.0 rewrite — optional cloud, per-site control, recovery

  • Introduced the optional cloud account layer: sign in for paid sync across devices and shared spaces — entirely opt-in, off by default
  • Added per-site visibility rules so the bar appears exactly where you want it
  • Added restore points and sort-recovery so accidental cleanup can be rolled back
  • Rebuilt the settings surface as a calm, full-page control panel
  • Full localization across 12 languages

v1.x

through March 2026

The original second bookmark row

  • The compact second bookmark row above any page, with nested folder menus and favicons
  • Built-in bookmark search and quick save-to-folder
  • Adaptive folder switching and usage-based ranking
  • A long run of stability and interaction-handling fixes
